A tough scene from new graphic novel
I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be a parent, how anyone ever knows anything for sure, especially in the context of my graphic novel. In this part of the story, Vidal and his family are living in Paris. Because he’s incredibly social, and because he’s recently gotten involved with resistance activities, he has a sense of what’s coming and wants to send his daughters away to be hidden. His wife has lived in Paris all her life, and adores her kids. She’s terrified of losing them, if not knowing where they’ll be, of them forgetting her, of never seeing them again. She also has reasons not to trust Vidal- and these scenes, the tension, their inability to know, their determination to do what they believed was right, has been some of the most heartbreaking stuff to write. (This scene is the unedited version of her internal panic. In the end, he won, and the girls escaped but the price was his marriage) 💔this is a tough section to illustrate and write but I still can’t wait to share it with you when it’s ready 💗
